Year Two of our partnership with National Geographic and Prada saw us shift focus specifically to ocean ecosystems in recognition of Prada’s Sea Beyond partnership with UNESCO-IOC. This three-part campaign took us from Italy to Indonesia to Greenland with three NG Explorers looking at issues around invasive species, coral reef ecosystems and marine micro-organisms.

We explore the power of education and Indigenous knowledge in creating inspiring solutions that can help mitigate coral reef loss in the Indo-Pacific, invasive species in the Mediterranean, and glacier recession in the Arctic.

Titouan Bernicot, who spearheads coral reef regeneration project Coral Gardeners, head to Raja Ampat, the global epicentre of marine biodiversity, where he meets a Papuan community helping safeguard the richest reefs on the planet; Photographer Kiliii Yüyan meets Greenlandic microbiologist Aviaja Lyberth Hauptmann, who is combining science with traditional indigenous knowledge systems to develop a revolutionary new university course for Inuit students in Nuuk; photojournalist Elisabetta Zavoli meets the fishing community and Michelin star restaurateurs finding solutions to invasive Atlantic Blue Crabs in Italy.
